Here’s a film shot entirely by DOP Federico Alfonzo… Human/ Kind…
A group of creatives from all areas of the industry have created a short film to commemorate the outpouring of kindness we’ve seen as London’s streets have become very quiet. Born out of WhatsApp conversations between Elliott Starr and Cinematographer Federico Alfonzo, captured by Federico on lone daily outings, and scripted, edited, voiced and graded remotely, the film is a testament to what we can achieve together even while we are apart.
Against a backdrop of empty central London, the film celebrates the acts of courage and kindness we have all witnessed, and partaken in, during the lockdown period. From simultaneously caring for our families whilst physically distancing from them when we most want to see them, from discovering our local areas to supporting the small businesses that keep them alive, and from clapping our carers to staying home to help their workload.
Human/ Kind prompts the nation to reflect on what they will remember from their time in lockdown, as well as encouraging us to remind ourselves of it in the future, with the aim of keeping the kindness going when the crisis is over.
Elliott Starr, Senior Copywriter at 20something says:
“Our indoor retreat has taught us a lot about ourselves. These are things we already knew – like what’s actually important in life, like how creative, imaginative, silly, fun and resilient we can be. We’ve forgotten our ‘busyness’. Our delusions of self-importance have been replaced by a genuine concern for our neighbours, friends, family, key workers and frontline health staff. We’ve potentially seen more of our friends than we did before lockdown. We’ve reached out to people we rarely speak to or haven’t spoken to in years. Life around the world has been truly put into perspective. COVID-19 has made us more human and more kind than we have ever been. But the real question is, when we return to life as new normal, will we remember everything lockdown has taught us? We wanted to encourage the nation to keep this mindset when we return to the world we used to inhabit.”
