Wizzo & Co. are thrilled to announce Costume Designer Nirage Mirage to our roster. Nirage is a highly experienced and talented Costume Designer working across film, television, commercials and stage. Nirage’s most notable work of late is the highly acclaimed feature After Love, directed by Ameel Khan.
After Love is a BFI / BBC film that stars Joanna Scanlan, Nathalie Richard and Talid Ariss. It’s about a recently widowed woman (Joanna Scanlan) who stumbles upon a secret connection her husband had across the Channel, in Calais. Armed with just a bag and his cell phone, she sets off to uncover the truth.
After Love has been officially selected for Cannes Critics’ Week, Toronto International Film Festival and BFI LFF so far. It has been awarded The 2020 Semaine de la Critique Label.
Nirage Mirage shares his Costume Design experience below:
“One of the highlights of designing the costumes for After Love was immersing in to the muslim community, absorbing its rich culture and learning about the subtle and significant detail of their traditional dress.
Director Aleem Khan wove elements of his own family life and experiences in to the script. The story is led by Mary (Joanna Scanlan) who appears in most shots of the film, and Genieveve (Nathalie Richard).
The film centres on cultures colliding and the complexity of relationships. The journeys of the two women and the differences they embody are mapped out by their costume.
Designing the costumes for After Love, honouring the traditions and journeys of these complex characters was an enriching experience.”
