January 22nd created, written by, and starring two-time BAFTA winner Michaela Coel (Chewing Gum, Black Mirror) wraps.
With cinematography by Adam Gillham and featuring Hair & Make Up Design by Bethany Swan, January 22nd follows the life of Arabella Essiedu (Coel) as she and her friends navigate new codes of sexual practice in London. It also stars Weruche Opia (Top Boy, Inside No. 9), Paapa Essiedu (Murder on the Orient Express, Utopia), Aml Ameen (Yardie, The Maze Runner), Adam James (Deep State, Belgravia), Sarah Niles (Dracula, Catastrophe) and Ann Akin (Strike, Electric Dreams).
Directed by Sam Miller and Michaela Coel, January 22nd has been described as by Deadline as “fearless, frank and provocative” while it “explores the question of sexual consent in contemporary life and how, in the new landscape of dating and relationships, we make the distinction between liberation and exploitation.”
