Welcome to the Roster – Cinematographer Nicola Daley ACS
Nicola’s latest feature, Pin Cushion, directed by Deborah Haywood and funded by the BFI, will receive its World Premiere at the Venice Int’l Film Festival. Screening out of competition the film will open the independent parallel strand Critics’ Week – the festival runs from 30 August to 9 September 2017.
Listed as one of Screendaily’s five UK feature debuts earning industry buzz, Pin Cushion is an all-girl gothic fairy tale set in the British working-class suburbs and starring Lily Newmark and Joanna Scanlan.
Nicola also shot the feature documentary Manolo: The Man Who Made Shoes for Lizards directed by Michael Roberts, which will be released later this year and features contributions from Rhianna, Eva Herzigova, Isabeli Fontana, Rupert Everett, Anna Wintour… An in-depth portrait of Manolo Blahnik, self confessed ‘cobbler’ and the man regarded as the most influential shoe designer of modern times – Trailer.
Other features include Thirst directed by Robert Carter and shot on location in Australia, and Black & White & Sex directed by John Winter.
Originally from the UK Nicola lived in Australia (where she became a member of the Australian Cinematographer’s Association) for a number of years before returning to the UK a few years ago.
Short films include Vote Yes, directed by Nick Waterman, which explores Australia’s referendum on Aboriginal rights, and I Am Emmanuel, directed by Genevieve Clay-Smith, which will hit the festival circuit soon.
Commercially Nicola recently shot a campaign for the Women’s FA directed by Laura Scrivano and feat. Little Mix, and Chambord directed by Kirkland & Rafalat, and music promos include Imelda May’s Call Me, directed by Laura Scrivano.
